Disney has announced the exciting news that a filmed performance of the hit musical Hamilton, featuring the original Broadway cast, will be released in cinemas on October 15, 2021. The Tony- and Pulitzer-winning musical, composed by Lin-Manuel Miranda, recounts the inspiring tale of the illustrious Founding Father Alexander Hamilton and his rise to power with a blend of hip-hop, R&B, and traditional show tunes.

In a statement, Miranda expressed his love for musical storytelling, particularly the Disney collaborations of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken, which inspired him growing up. He also said pride in the film adaptation of musical, which director Tommy Kail captured during a live performance of Hamilton at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in June 2016.
